Italy: New IVA rules covering intra-EU transfers of goods, valuation and work upon goods
In the past Italian IVA was out of kilter with the provisions stated by article 17 (2) f of Directive 2006/112/CE. With effect from 18 August 2015 companies transferring goods to or from Italy may find that they are now obliged to register for IVA as a result of a European Court of Justice ruling that confirmed the lack of parity and has as a result bought the Italian system into line with the remaining EU member states. In short where you are moving goods into and or out of Italy it is worth reviewing those transactions to avoid being caught out by the heavy Italian penalty regime and ensure you remain compliant.
