    USA: Chicago addresses Sales Taxation of cloud computing transactions


     

    The department of finance in Chicago has issued two rulings that greatly expand Chicago’s ability to tax cloud based products and services.

    The first of these is an amusement tax ruling that that extends the tax to electronically delivered entertainment.

    In addition to the above a further lease tax ruling extends the tax to certain ‘specified’ computer products and services

    Both came into effect from 1 January 2015 but the Authorities are allowing a transition period until September 1st 2015 at which point both taxes will be enforced at a rate of 9%
